Although 11 candidates stood for Bourton, these did not match the number of councillors allocated to the two new parish wards (Bourton South-East = 3 councillors, Bourton Village = 8 councillors).

Accordingly, the 2 candidates for Bourton South East were elected automatically, leaving one vacancy for that ward.  There was then an election to decide which 8 of the 9 candidates would be elected for Bourton Village.

This inevitably caused much confusion on polling day itself as some residents in Bourton South-East, whose candidates were elected automatically, were unaware this meant they would not be able to vote in the local elections, ie for candidates in Bourton Village ward.

The Council is writing to lodge a strong complaint that this information was not made sufficiently clear to voters, and to seek a soonest reinstatement of the single parish for Bourton.  It's understood this will require an Act of Parliament, but can hopefully be progressed without delay.

In the meantime, the candidate who was not elected to Bourton Village, Richard Vann, was co-opted to fill the vacancy for Bourton South-East.  This has no impact within the Council where the geographical split has virtually no significance to matters discussed.
