Letter received from Moreton-in-Marsh Town Council - 30 November 2018

Dear Mrs Cretney

You might be aware that the X-ray department at the North Cotswolds Hospital has been reduced from a five-day provision to only one day, a drop of 30 hours a week to just 8. Although the hospital is based in Moreton-in-Marsh, it serves the needs of all residents in the north of Gloucestershire.

Without the X-ray service at the North Cotswolds Hospital, you and your parishioners will have to travel to Cheltenham, Gloucester or Cirencester, or across County borders, to check even minor injuries and have routine X-rays. This could put strain on our ambulance service and volunteer drivers, puts residents at risk, and sends routine work to A&E units that are already struggling.

Moreton-in-Marsh Town Council has therefore decided to take action. Supporting the efforts of our District Councillor, Cllr Alison Coggins, we are inviting all the Town and Parish Councils of north Gloucestershire to join our campaign to reverse the cut to the X-ray department.

Cllr Coggins has created a petition to demand a debate at Shire Hall, and we invite you and your parishioners to sign that petition. Please search change.org (or use bit.ly/2TA3yKq).

Alternatively, you can gather signatures using the included petition form*. We already have 5,000 signatures, so County Councillors at Shire Hall will be debating the issue, if we can get 10,000 signatures, the Government will have to respond.

We have also enclosed a template letter for your consideration to send to your District and Council Councillors to gather their support. Please modify and amend this as you see fit - getting more people of influence on-board will only help our cause.

We are holding a rally at the North Cotswolds Hospital from 8am to 10am on Thursday 13th December. We invite you, fellow Councillors and anyone else that wishes to attend to help us show support for our NHS staff, and to raise awareness of the issue in the local media.

Yours sincerely,

Cllr. Clive Webster
