Sunday 5th June
Duck racing on the river kicks things off at 10:30.
St Lawrence’s Church will hold a Jubilee Celebration Service at 11.00am and will also put on a floral display in the church over the weekend.
The whole of Sunday afternoon is given over to the Fun Day which will take place on the Green and in the village centre.
The event starts at 3.00pm, but sections of the High Street and Victoria Street will be closed from 09.00 so we can set-up stalls and entertainment.
The event will open at 3pm with a Flotilla in the River. Some of you who were here in 2012 will remember this event which proved to be a really popular feature. The boats must all be hand-made, with no motors and can be as crazy as you like – as long as they’re small enough to get under the bridges! They’ll be prizes in different categories for those who wish to enter this as a competition, but you can also float your boat without being in the competition if you wish – the more the merrier. Competition entry forms are available from Bourton Visitor Information Centre, are printed in the March Browser or can be downloaded using the attachment below. Completed forms should be returned to the Visitor Information Centre who have kindly offered their assistance with the registration process. Please don’t leave it till the last minute to register as that will make this event even crazier.
All of the entertainment on Sunday will be free and it’s hoped there’ll be something for everyone. Some of these activities will be:
- Fete style stalls on the Green
- Community Group stalls on the Green
- A trailer parked on the High Street from which bands will play at different times
- A performance area for dance displays, and other entertainment
- A Mobile Climbing Wall
- Children's activities (to include face painting)
- Street entertainers (to include magicians and a caricaturist) – still working on others!
There’ll also be 2 History Walks comprising an accompanied walk around the village introducing you to a glorious gallimaufry of royal titbits from the history of Bourton on the Water. An easy ½ mile / 45 minute walk around the village centre, starting at 4pm and 6pm opposite the Old New Inn by the River Windrush Ford crossing. Registration on the day at the Information Kiosk on the Green.
The Victoria Hall Trustees have kindly given the Hall over to the Working Group, free of cost, for the weekend, for which we’re extremely thankful. On the Sunday one of the downstairs rooms in the Hall will be set up for a display of Primary School pupils’ art based on historic photos of Bourton; upstairs, a DVD of the Silver Jubilee celebrations in Bourton will be shown and accompanied by a talk by the resident who filmed these back in 1977. Other historic photos and images of Bourton will be set up to complement the films and provide a small snapshot of Bourton in days gone by.
Some local businesses will provide food stalls which will be set up in the space beside the Victoria Hall to make sure that everyone can find something to eat. The stalls will open at 5pm, but obviously all of our usual local catering outlets will be opened to make sure you don’t go hungry.
There’ll be a couple of competitions you can take part in, just for fun:
For younger residents (age 11 and under) there’ll be a competition to Spot the Nursery Rhyme characters in some of our shop windows. The characters will be placed in windows at the start of the 4-day weekend and you simply have to spot which Nursery Rhyme they belong to.
There’ll also be a photo competition for you to spot views of Bourton which encourage you to look up – open to all ages.
The competition entry forms will be posted here nearer the day.
The Fun Day will end at 9pm when traffic flow through the village will be reinstated.
