Bourton-on-the-Water Parish Council
Parish and Town Councils have been given the power under various pieces of legislation to make grants to different organisations and bodies and the Parish Council therefore sets aside a sum within its annual budget to provide grants. These grants are subject to general legislation, but it is usual for local Councils to set out additional guidelines for the consideration of such applications. Our current procedure is listed below and it sets out our current policy governing Grant Applications. The policy is revised annually and each year’s policy is posted on the web-site as and when available.
Please note that the deadline for receipt of all applications is 20th August in each calendar year. Local groups and organisations are encouraged to put the deadline of 20th August in their diary for every year's applications.
This timescale enables Council to initially consider all grants at its September meeting. Applications for large grants will be further considered and approved at the October meeting, usually following a presentation by the applicant organisation. Organisations wishing to submit an application for either a Small (under £1,000) or a Large (over £1,000) Grant are asked to submit these applications using the form provided below. Applicants must be aware that large grants will only be payable during the following financial year to enable provision to be made within that year’s budget, and organisations wishing to apply should therefore prepare their application early to ensure it can be paid in the year in which it is required.
2016 Grant Awards
A number of local groups and organisations were awarded grants at the Council meeting in September 2016, including the local U3A Group, Bourton Visitor Information Centre, Bourton Vale Cricket Club and Bourton Primary Academy, amongst others.
Please click on the links below to see a full schedule of the grants awarded in 2016.
Bourton Visitor Information Centre
The Council is pleased to be able to offer the VIC assistance with its running costs for the year. The VIC has managed to maintain running costs despite an 8.8% increase in rent levels. This summer staff and volunteers at the Centre, past and present, celebrated their 10th anniversary:
Bourton Primary Academy Gardening Club
The local school's Gardening Club has been supported by the Council's grant scheme over the past few years and we were delighted to hear that, as a result of this, it is now fully equipped and the club is regularly over subscribed. Organiser of the Club, Mrs Kemeys, thanked the Council for our kind donations and informed us that through the Club's sales of flowers and vegetables grown from seed, this year they raised £163, which they donated to the gardening charity Thrive.
Iron Age Hut
We donated £200 towards the Primary School's 2015 project to undertake urgent repairs to the thatched roof on the Iron Age Hut. The Hut provides a permanent historical reference to Iron Age living and was built 15 years ago by the pupils and Blue Peter. Thanks to our grant it now has a new crown!'
